Emel Tunaboylu came to painting after a training in communication, pursuing oil painting and drawing before completing her studies at Istanbul Technical University's fine arts faculty. Born and raised in Istanbul, she has since relocated to Turkey's Aegean region.

She describes herself as a Mediterranean spirit, drawing inspiration from nature, music and philosophy and reflecting the light and ease of Mediterranean life in work made with evident care and dedication.
